The apartment is located in the city. Kiev at the intersection of Saksagansky and Antonovich streets. This landmark of Art Nouveau architecture was built in 1911.
The design project was developed for a family of three people. The main request from customers was to create a light, spacious and concise environment with the spirit of a historic house in light, warm colors and with bright accents.
As a canvas for the project, such a rare apartment is of course a treasure, because we got a large area of rooms, high ceilings, many windows and, accordingly, a lot of light, which made it possible to realize all the ideas.
At the core of the design, we of course relied on the request of customers, in general, the whole apartment is in light colors, with large baguettes on the ceiling, high plinth. Between the kitchen and the entrance group there is a large wooden arch, the rhythm of the ornament of which we borrowed from the original windows of the house, in this way it once again emphasizes the historicity of the building. The whole apartment is conditionally divided into two zones open part: the hallway, the kitchen-dining room, the living room with an accent bay window and the home office area, this whole part is connected to each other by portals instead of doors, which in general gives us the feeling of a whole large space. The bedrooms leave already to the private part of the apartment and the entrance to them through a luxurious classic high door.
The entrance area of the door is decorated with MDF panels with a laconic extension, on the floor we have porcelain stoneware with accent graphic lines with rounding. This is our first solution of such a plan. The tiles for our request were cut with the required radii, in general, the solution is quite budgetary and reliable in further operation. This graphic rounded square is repeated in us in the kitchen area. The red facades of the lower cabinets, and the light, corrugated box of the upper ones, here it was important to find the perfect proportions so as not to overload the space and that the feeling of the kitchen remains light. There are many brass accents in this area: kitchen handles, lamps, plumbing. The dining area is quite roomy framed by windows on all sides, next to a luxurious accent sideboard. In the kitchen they used a mix of Ukrainian manufacturers and some Scandinavian positions. High cabinets for the refrigerator and appliances for easier visual perception recessed in the wall that separates the kitchen and living room with beautiful milled elements for the hood at the bottom of the cabinets.
The entrance to the living room leads through classic milled portals, the shape of the living room was originally quite complex in geometry. Therefore, for easier perception, we rounded the area of the bay window and the entrance, made the twisting of the baseboards and cornices on the ceiling, this became a kind of highlight of the room. Initially, the bay window was planned in MDF panels, but repairs in historic buildings make their own adjustments, and in the process they had to be abandoned. In this area, they decided to duplicate the solution with a bright, colored “hole” that can also be traced in the master bathroom. On the walls there is wallpaper in an emerald shade, and even the radiator and window sill also support the monolith of this zone. In general, the living room is as bright as possible and spacious large comfortable sofa group, here we played with the red accent of the chair, the complex milled facade of the console under the TV, and on the wall to the left of the entrance there was a large format painting from V. Keno
A minimalist wooden portal leads to the master bedroom and bathrooms in the case of which there is a zone for outerwear and shoes. The master bedroom area is rather dim due to the small access of light to this room, so there are mainly light shades of walls, bed upholstery, and many artificial lighting elements.
A master bathroom with light microcement on the walls, a contrasting mosaic with an ornament on the floor, massive plaster cornices and a rosette on the ceiling, the space itself with an accent area of the shower in emerald tiles, brass faucets and a shower tray under wood.
Another bedroom in the project is more youthful and light, a dark laconic wooden headboard, a rack with a non-standard rhythm of redistribution, and a rather massive desktop. Despite quite modern solutions and furniture, in general the space is perceived as an element of a historic building due to the cornices, high plinths and classic door milling.
In the project, we tried to preserve the feeling of space in the apartment, so the main base of the project is of course light, but we needed to add comfort with red wood elements, brass points, or graphic lines on the floor, carving arches and furniture facades. Even with a fairly spacious and bright base, we always work fruitfully on each element that we add to the room so that we want to consider it and thus enrich the space.
We want to believe that in the apartment we have combined the present and the past, that there is a sense of history, but in spite of everything here there is comfort, and a feeling of space to dance your pa.
