Interior trip to Georgia: what the new institution “Mama Manana” looks like

The new establishment of the restaurant chain of Georgian cuisine “Mama Manana” is located in the residential complex Respublika, in the capital Teremki. In a separate building with an area of about 308 sq. m, a piece of Georgia comes to life. Mama Manana Restaurant is more than a place to serve khachapuri and wine; it's an interior journey imbued with subtle allusions to Georgian culture and respect for local craftsmanship.

Light and space

The peculiarity of the new restaurant “Mama Manana” is the absence of walls — instead of them there are huge panoramic windows. Thanks to this, the room is always filled with natural light, and this creates a feeling of openness and lightness. But this transparency proved to be a design challenge. Panoramic windows dictated their decision: the seating areas were placed along the walls, and the bathrooms and technological rooms were in the center of the room. This became the basis of the conceptual approach, where each area is thought out to the smallest detail.

Ukrainian craft production

Designer Kateryna Mardanova, who with the team created the design of the restaurant, claims that in all her projects she prefers Ukrainian craft production — whether it be materials, furniture or interior items. “Mama Manana” was no exception: the furniture of the institution was created to order by Ukrainian craftsmen from Kharkov. The table bases, made of deep blue ceramics, seem to send us to the Georgian sky reflected in ancient clay jugs.

Columns: Moroccan accent

At first glance, Georgia and Morocco have little in common, but both countries have developed similar architectural and artistic traditions. Inspired by this similarity, the designer of the restaurant transformed the metal pillars into art columns, and they became the main decorative element of the space, creating the atmosphere of an oriental fairy tale. Ceramic vases and planters that repeat the patterns and shapes of the columns continue the theme, adding depth and harmony to the interior.

Bathrooms as an art object

Creating the project of the restaurant, the design team paid attention to every detail, in particular the design of the bathrooms. Washbasins in deep blue and bright orange colors are made of solid concrete. These bright accents are not only functional, but also are real art objects created from exclusive sketches.

Center of gravity

In the main hall of the institution there is a long table, ideal for large companies or family holidays. If desired, the space can be privatized using textile curtains. A massive chandelier is installed above the table — originally created for the Kharkiv restaurant chain, it has found its place here, adding a zone of true Georgian authenticity. By the way, the chandelier was assembled by hand from more than 2000 beads.

Minimalism and details

The bar counter in “Mama Manana” is made in a laconic style, which allows you to focus on the details of the interior. In the hostas area, a stand made of veneered walnut stands out, complemented by a ceramic installation. Glazed ceramic petals floating in the air create an impression of lightness and ephemerality, making greeting guests a special ritual.

Sommelier Zone

For wine connoisseurs there is a separate presentation area with wine shelves. Here you can not only choose a drink, but also enjoy it at a cozy table.

Restaurant “Mama Manana” is not just a gastronomic space, but a place where history and modernity intertwine in a harmonious union. Every detail here speaks of love for Georgian culture and pride in Ukrainian production. This is a restaurant where guests feel part of the great celebration of life.
