Gongu Izakaya is a modern reading of Japanese gastronomic culture in the heart of ancient Riga. The 565 m² space in the historic building has become a stage for the embodiment of a vision, where the design does not copy the Japanese aesthetic - but delicately hints at it.

Traditional shoji in the dining area fill the atmosphere with soft intimate light. The rhythmic grid of wood creates a sense of structure and tranquility, adding tactile depth. Portals refer to the form of the Toria gate: not literal copies, but elegant echoes of Japanese symbols.

The arches form smooth transitions between spaces, and the monumental common table seems to grow from the floor, emphasizing the idea of unity. In the center is a gong with a diameter of 1.5 m, found in Bali. Once just a detail, it became the soul of the space and gave the restaurant a name.

Most of the interior items are made to order in Ukraine, adding stories of special meaning.

It is not just an interior - it is an emotional composition of materials, light and meanings, where every detail works to create an atmosphere that you want to live again and again.
