The Bonsai facility project is a vivid example of how a place of aesthetics and a non-standard solution is in any context, when an ambitious dream encourages the realization of an idea. The project's customers are entrepreneurs from the small town of Teofipol, Khmelnytsky region, 100 km from Khmelnitsky. There are only a few establishments in the town, one of which was previously designed by our studio.
Even before approaching us with the idea of the future establishment, the owners of Bonsai were already running their own business in the field of food - it was a small location of the same name with Asian dishes. However, customers dreamed of expanding this project to the scale of a full-fledged institution - in a sense, this was their debut in this segment. The name Bonsai remained, but the menu was expanded, combining dishes of Asian cuisine with Ukrainian. This also influenced the visual concept of the project - we abandoned the too literal and uniform design of the space in the Asian style, instead preferring a more modern and personalized interior solution.
At the entrance, guests are greeted by a peculiar symbol of the institution - a miniature bonsai tree in an accent cut of the vestibule, separating the chamber area with the table from the common space with the bar area.
The interior is built on a combination of wood and clay texture with sandy-ash shades. All countertops, bar counters and decorative partitions are made of natural wood - their shades and textures were selected in such a way that individual objects do not conflict with each other, but on the contrary, a single tandem emphasizes the integrity of the interior.
Most of the interior elements were made to order - in particular, we worked with local contractors from Khmelnytskyi region. It was to them that we turned to order concrete washbasins for the establishment, as well as some furniture items: bar, countertops, interior partitions, soft furniture elements. However, we also used objects of Ukrainian design - the interior of the establishment was complemented by soft Tivoli chairs, created according to the design of Studio Kononenko ID.
In the end, the final appearance of the project not only conveys the characteristic aesthetics of the institution, but also indirectly tells the story of its creation through individual details. So, one of the main visual accents of the Bonsai interior is the textured brick wall at the end of the room. The implementation of this element in the project required a special approach and unique masonry technique - this is why it is so valuable in the end, because such non-standard solutions are not so common in institutions of small towns. For Bonsai and its owners, this is not just part of the project - it is its visual point of attraction that attracts the attention of guests as soon as they enter the space of the establishment.
The project also provides for a children's area. There is an opinion that such decisions can spoil the interior of the institution - and it can be understood. However, in this project we aimed to create a family institution where it will be comfortable not only for adults, but also for younger guests. The customers themselves have two children, so it was their principled wish, backed up by personal experience.
Since the object is located in Teofipol, almost all author's supervision during the implementation period was carried out remotely - however, even in these conditions, all materials were selected by us together with the customers, and each stage of the future implementation of the project was discussed in the smallest detail. It was due to high-quality communication that this project “came to life” in the form in which it was conceived. Our full understanding with our customers, as well as their trust in us as experts, willingness to listen and support, and ultimately their belief in our own ambitious dream, which we have brought to life together, has had a great impact on the implementation process and facilitated it.
