4308 — a space that grew out of community and civic position

The 4308 Hub project is a space in which material form becomes a continuation of civic consciousness and a living embodiment of solidarity. The name “4308” is an encrypted designation for the word “Azov,” which was used in the days when Facebook and Instagram blocked mentions of the brigade. This space is a manifestation of deep gratitude, kinship, and unwavering support. All profits go to charity — so by choosing to just have a coffee, you become part of a good cause.

The offer to join was made as part of a broader volunteer project for NGO “4308”, a civilian part of the special purpose brigade “AZOV” of the NGU. Initiative for the Design and Implementation of Space Team Between the Wallsaccepted without hesitation, immediately deciding to work on a charitable basisUnderstanding the importance of this mission.

After the start of work, it became clear that 4308 is a project about community. One of the members of the studio team, Artem, voluntarily joined the AZOV team in 2023. His partner Katya, designer of Between the Walls, was responsible for the visual part of the space. Architect Vika completed a full set of drawings, becoming a full member of the team. For everyone, the work on this project was deeply personal.

The project also brought together a wider circle of participants — contractors, suppliers, partners. Many of them agreed to provide materials and equipment for free or at great discounts. This made it possible to optimize costs and direct basic funds to the needs of the crew, rather than expensive decorative solutions.

The 4308 space combines three main functions within a single architectural solution:

Showroom — the presentation area of the new clothing brand 4308, where collections are exhibited and visitors get acquainted with the products. The space is organized to demonstrate things in the context of the general style of the brand.

Coffee house with kitchenas a public area for recreation and informal communication. Provides the possibility of holding meetings, work sessions and regular visits for the consumption of drinks and food.

Multifunctional playground for lectures, presentations and public events. Designed for the audience of military and civilians, provides technical capabilities for various formats of events.

The interior is designed in a masculine character — through wood of deep, rich shades, metal, modern concrete and unique aluminum showcases from the late 80s, which have been preserved and creatively reimagined for new needs. Some of the materials are found in the secondary market, some of the furniture is vintage, with its own history, which the space transforms into modernity and gives it a new life. This approach is deeply rooted in the principles of recycling, recycling and sustainable design, demonstrating a responsible attitude towards resources.

Space 4308 was designed with special attention to inclusivityand equal opportunities. An inclusive bathroom is planned, convenient access from the stop of public transport, special lifting mechanisms for people with low mobility. The team works carefully to ensure that the space is as comfortable and convenient as possible for each visitor, regardless of their needs.

The “4308" Hub is the first project of the civilian part of the special purpose brigade “AZOV” of the NGUinnovatively combining the functions of a public space, socially responsible business and a platform for public communication. In the plans of the team — format extensionand the creation of similar points throughout Ukraine, creating a network of places that unite people.
